Storyteller, writer, photographer

As my favorite Jedi would say, “Hello, there.”

That’s me to the left, Victor Tan. I’d like to, first, sincerely thank you for coming to my website, the virtual home for my professional work and my creative arts. Even if you’re just here in passing, I appreciate the visit.

Plainly speaking, I’m interested in the art of storytelling, combining my relatively extensive writing experience with my enthusiasm for photography.

The way I see it, a photograph is about capturing an ever-persistent moment, and I believe it to be just one piece to something greater than just an eternalized, static capture of a point in time. Seriously impactful art — whether read, viewed or heard — almost always has a story intertwined with it.

I like to create this kind of art, and, in turn, I like to tell these kinds of stories.

This passion for storytelling derives from my days emboldened by the power of feature writing, first, as a journalism student at the University of Central Florida and later as a sports journalist in Orlando. Shortly before graduating, I earned the opportunity to cover seven of my university’s NCAA teams, including its coveted football and men’s basketball teams, three Orlando pro-soccer teams and the Orlando Magic of the NBA for a start-up sports-news outlet I owned and operated.

Following my days in sports, I entered the realm of magazines, travel journalism and marine journalism with Bonnier Corporation’s Yachting magazine and. There, I was privileged enough to venture to places like the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Italy and the United Kingdom “for work,” reviewing tropical resorts, gallivanting on 80-foot yachts (even if only for an hour-long sea trial) and documenting my experiences.

But, throughout my time as both a sports and a travel journalist, I always continued to make photos of people and everyday life. That started with shooting portraits in 2017, doing trade-for-print shoots with aspiring models and documenting home life. Since then, I’ve photographed couples, graduates, families and street culture, too.

All that said, I still hold writing close to my heart. Growing up, that’s where I felt most comfortable to express myself — scribbling unfinished short stories and sappy, love-stricken poems. I’ve gotten a little better since those days.

So, come; let’s begin planning our next project; our next creation; our next story. If you find me suitable as a storyteller, as a writer and/or as a photographer, contact me today. Let’s tell your story together.
